- 2009 Volkswagen E-Up Concept: This compact city car concept from VW could actually be a production platform for the next-generation VW Beetle, and also, a some future compacts as well. So, what does it pack? VW say that the E-Up Concept follows VW's new "design DNA", which basically claim that VW could make an ultra-compact look appeling, and somewhat desirable. However, the E-Up Concept's main mission, is to deliver that "zero-emissions" technical showcase. E-Up Concept is powered by a continuously-variable electric motor, which drives the front-wheels, and packs 80 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque. Because E-Up is so small, and only weighs 1,085 kilograms, 60 mph comes up in 11.2 seconds, and will top-out at 83 mph. Nonetheless, as this is only a city compact with 154 lb-ft of torque, VW say that it can launch to 30 mph in a quick 3.5 seconds. Driving range is allowed for 75 mph. Recharging takes 5 hours in a 240-volt power-outlet, but 80% will be done recharging the battery within an hour. A production will up soon, but for now, this is what the Volkswagen Design Center have showcased in Frankfurt.
- 2009 Volkswagen L1 Concept: Hang on; yes, this is a real car, on a real platform. It's the L1 Concept, and while it may look very very weird, it's under that body what defines it. First off, that 'squeezy' body, which hides the rear-wheels and has somewhat in-line seat design, is actually fully-made of carbon-fiber, and therefore, it's ultra-light, weighing just 380 kilograms. Then there's the world-wonder drive-train; it's a full-on hybrid. Volkswagen say that when the L1 Concept comes out as a showroom car, it will crack as the world's most efficient hybrid! How? Well, the basic recipe for this is a 0.8L TDI turbo-diesel, and a battery-powered electric-motor, making a total power of 53 hp and roughly 100 lb-ft of torque. However, because both the diesel engine and electric motor are placed at the rear, and the electric-motor specially is located between the engine and the transmission, VW were able to fit their 7-speed DSG transmission, allowing for excessive fuel-economy numbers. Add that, plus a start-stop technology, the L1 Concept can crack a combined fuel-economy rating of 157 mpg! That easily makes it the most fuel-efficient hybrid, but it surely doesn't make it the fastest. When it comes in a production form in 2013, a 1.6L TDI engine will be offered as an option.
- 2010 Volkswagen Golf R: Bad news Golf GTI owners, the awaited R-Line edition of Golf is here. However, unlike the last generation Golf R, which had a bullet V6 engine, the new 2010 Golf R is actually based on the new Scirocco R; so, it comes with a 2.0L turbocharged engine, with 265 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. With VW's 7-Speed DSG transmission, the Golf R will sprint to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds, and also, can achieve 21 mpg fuel-economy rating. All 2010 Golf R models are driven by VW's 4-Matic all-wheel drive system. Beneath the sheetmetall, Volkswagen's engineers upgraded the Golf's chassis with a lower suspension that features new dampers and springs, improved disc brakes all around measuring 345mm up front and 310mm at the back, plus a new electronic XDS differential. The cosmetic department gives out an extended body-kit, updated LED taillights, sporty 19-inch wheels, and dual center exhaust pipes. Inside, the hot Golf sports a set of front bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel with a flattened bottom featuring the 'R' logo, aluminum decorative trim around the center console, plus subtly restyled instrument dials special for the Golf R. . The Volkswagen Golf R can be ordered in Germany starting at the end of 2009, in 3-door and 5-door variants. It was rumored before, and it's true now. It's a real GTI among diesels, even better. Volkswagen calls the GTD "the 1000 kilometer GTI". In other words, the GTD should be a very fuel efficient hot hatchback.
In the looks department, all the cosmetic changes from the base Golf are similar to the GTI body kit. GTD comes with sport chassis and 17-inch rims that are similar to the ones on GTI. Exterior is very similar to the GTI too - bumper, grille and headlights are all identical. Rear side is different though, and has dual exhausts on the left side, not on the left and right like the GTI. Inside, it's much more of the same with the sporty bucket seats like the GTI, and a three-spoke steering wheel flattened along the bottom edge. Overall, it really looks like a GTI, just with the I changed into D, for diesel.
The diesel engine in the GTD is also similar to the petrol one in the GTI. It's a 2.0L turbo, with less horsepower than the GTI, but more torque, at 170 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox, the GTD will scamp to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds, and top out at 138 mph. Yes that's a bit slower than the GTI, but with a lot more torque, the GTD can cruise and top out just as fast as the GTI.
It's even better. With a 55 liter / 14.5 gallon fuel tank, and the diesel engine managing 44.3 mpg, the GTD can cover 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) on a single tank. That means in reality, the GTD will certainly be just as quick as the GTI if not even quicker, because it's doesn't have to stop for re-fueling while going to long road-trips.
The Dutch tuner has created a new bodykit that replicates the looks of the Golf GTI W12 Concept. The kit includes: new front and rear bumpers, side skirts with faux air vents, 60mm wider fenders that house 18-inch or optionally, 19-inch GTI alloy wheels, new front grille, four tailpipes, rear-tined windows (to make people think that you actually got a W12 engine behind), and a supposedly redesigned trunk lid with a fake "W12-650" badge.
You may ask, any mechanical changes? Put simply, not really. They may gave it four tailpipes to try mimic the look and the sound of the W12, but still any engine variant on the 3-door Golf is kept the same. Whether it's the 1.6L or the GTI's 2.0L turbocharged.
So for only a body-kit, this is quite costly. Including the labor and tax, it's approximately US $17,000. That's nearly the cost of another Golf ! So what this ends up is a laughing stock. Trying to look like a supercar and costs a lot doing that, but then at a traffic light beaten by a teenager in an 80's Japanese coupe. So please, Mk V Golf owners, keep your Golf as it looks, for the benefit of everyone.
Despite being the biggest Polo ever it weighs 7.5 % less than the previous generation model. It now packs more space inside and all head, shoulder and legreem have been increased.
2009 Polo has five new engines; TSI and Common Rail TDI in the Polo for the first time. 2009 Polo is powered by a mix of advanced naturally aspirated 1.2- and 1.4 L engines as well as a new turbocharged 1.2L TSI petrol unit joining another all-new 1.6L TDI common rail diesel engine. All are equipped with either 5 or 6-speed manual gearboxes. Selected variants can be ordered with new lightweight 7-speed DSG gearbox.
A 1.6L 90 hp BlueMotion common rail diesel will join the range soon after the launch. This second generation BlueMotion II will follow in 2010 offering 75hp and an amazing 85 mpg while generating just 87 g/km of CO2. So with 85 mpg, no electric or hybrid car can be as "green" as the BlueMotion.
Production of the new Polo will start this summer and first deliveries will take place in October. Prices will be announced in the near future.
This 2-door roadster is powered by a mid-mounted 2.0L turbo-diesel 4 cylinder. However, because the whole car is less than 4 meters long, it's very small and light. So the engine gives out 180hp and 260lb-ft of torque. That takes this baby look-alike Audi R8 from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds, and onwards to a top speed of 140mph. But because the engine runs of clean diesel, the Bluesport Concept has the fuel consumption of an impressive 55 mpg.
So it seems this car is ready to hit the road. When it comes out as a production model, it's expected to go against mainly the Mazda Miata. However, can people be convinced that a "diesel sport roadster" works? Well that's the question when this car comes out.
With the end of the 2008 year, awards for everything amazing in this years are being revealed. And 
This power is channeled to a 6-speed DSG dual clutch transmission. Adapted directly from the racing car are the coilovers, four-piston brake calipers and a sound-optimized exhaust system. 
Visually, this concept car emulates the racing version to a great extent. This German car is an homage to Italy. The tri-colors of the motor show host country are represented by green, white and red elements of both the exterior and interior.
Starting with the looks, this looks absolutely awesome. However, with this Super CC, VW added 20-inch custom designed 10-spoke rims, black chrome exterior accents, grey pearl paint with custom front and rear bumper, side panels and machined aluminum spoiler. Inside, Super CC gets high-gloss piano black accents offset by matte black graphics. Custom black leather Recaro racing seats and matching floor mats are highlighted with white piping. So we can tick mark the looks inside and out.
We come now the interesting bit, the engine. It's a 2.0L TSI engine and then given an APR stage 3 turbocharger system with three performance levels. In Full Power mode the Super CC brings 311 hp and 313 lbs. ft. torque; GT mode offers 252 hp and 268 lbs. ft. of torque; and in the Eco-Friendly mode outs 222 hp and 236 lbs. ft. of torque. However, in Eco mode, it manages 33MPG hwy, 27MPG city. In Full Power, it's 29MPG hwy, 20MPG city. That's even better than the standard CC.
