New Reveal : 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco R

The high-performance 'R' version of the Scirocco that was previewed as a concept study at last year's Bologna Motor Show, and has finally been revealed in production form. The VW Scirocco R has a more agressive cosmetics, reworked engine, tuned-up suspension, and all-wheel drive system. The new style bodykit in the Scirocco R makes it one of the best looking Sciroccos out. The bodykit consists of a lower front bumper that houses larger air vents for cooling the engine as well as LED daytime running lights, side skirts, new grille, roof spoiler, restyled rear bumper and darkened tail lights. The R model sits on newly designed 18-inch five-spoke rims while customers can also opt for 19-inch rims. The new bodykit also helps with aerodynamics and reduces lift.Inside, the hot Scirocco sports a set of front bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel with a flattened bottom featuring the 'R' logo, aluminum decorative trim around the center console, plus subtly restyled instrument dials special for the Scirocco R.VW pulled a surprise in the new Scirocco R. It was supposed to have a V6 engine. However, to reduce weight, the high-performance Scirocco R still uses a TSI 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder. Nonetheless, with modifications that are identical in the Audi TT-S, like a boosting higher pressure in the turbocharger as well as a new intercooler help give a new output of 265 hp and 258 lb/ft of torque. The new TSI engine can be connected to either a 6-speed manual, or the famous twin-clutch 6-speed DSG semi-automatic gearbox. All 2010 Scirocco R models are driven by VW's 4-Matic all-wheel drive system. With launch control, the Scirocco R hits 60 mph in 6.4 seconds, and reach a top speed of electronically limited 155 mph.Beneath the sheetmetall, Volkswagen's engineers upgraded the standard Scirocco's chassis with a lower suspension that features new dampers and springs, improved disc brakes all around measuring 345mm up front and 310mm at the back, plus a new electronic XDS differential as found in the latest Golf GTI.

The new 2010 VW Scirocco R is scheduled to arrive in European showrooms in the beginning of fall 2009. Pricing to be listed soon.
