Today Tesla Motors introduced a Sport version of the Roadster at the Detroit Auto Show. It reaches 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and starts at $128,500 in the United States. Deliveries begin in late June.
Roadster Sport comes with a hand-wound stator and increased winding density for lower resistance and higher peak torque. So now, the Roadster S "revs" until 14,000 rpm. In addition to Yokohama’s Ultra High Performance tires, the Roadster Sport has improved suspension with adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars that will be tuned to the driver’s preferences.
This is the Tesla that should have debuted at first. Because with more power, better tires and beefed-up suspension, the Tesla S wins all the competition against its rivals. It's amazing how a new-born car maker is making cars that old and experienced car makers are afraid of.
