Awards At Detroit: Hyundai Genesis and Ford F-150 win 2009 Car and Truck of the Year
So, the 2009 Detroit Auto Show ended. However, which cars took the 2009 North American Car and Truck of the Year? Well here's the answer. The 2009 Hyundai Genesis left the Dodge Challenger, Nissan GT-R and the Honda Fit in the dust when it accepted the award for the 2009 North American Car of the Year. The 2009 Ford F-150 once again reestablished its territory taking the 2009 North American Truck of the Year award.
The Genesis also beat the 2009 Ford Flex and the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. In the final round of voting, the F-150 beat the Dodge Ram and the Mercedes-Benz ML320 BlueTEC.
So it wasn't a bad show after all, Detroit!
New Reveal At Detroit: Jaguar XFR fastest Jag ever to run at the Bonneville Salt Flats
Jaguar revealed the XFR over the weekend at the Detroit Auto Show. Now Jaguar announced that the XFR is the fastest Jaguar ever, and that it could achieve 225 mph. Not the stock car though! This record run was done at the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah where an XFR prototype recorded a stunning top speed of 225.675mph (363.188km/h). It is even faster than the XJ220, which managed 217.1mph (349.4 km/h) in 1992.
XFR prototype is powered by the all-new supercharged 5.0L engine, that has 510hp. Don’t get confused by the look of this record breaking XFR, as these aerodynamic modifications were done to meet the safety requirements. Engineers played around with the ECU, air intakes, exhaust system, and supercharger settings. These changes boosted the power to around 600 hp. The transmission and the tires were stock. So it just shows what the engine and the gearbox are really capable of. Though it would be interesting to know what would have been the top speed if the engine had been left 100 % stock.
Here's the video of the 225mph run.

New Reveal At Detroit: 2010 Fisker Karma Hybrid Sedan; Karma S Concept
Fisker Automotive took the wraps of the Karma Hybrid Sedan, as well as the Karma S Concept today at the Detroit Auto Show. Both models are powered by hybrid Q-Drive powertrain.
The hybrid Q-Drive powertrain is a combination of a GM 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder that develops 260hp, and a large powerful lithium ion battery provides 22.6 kWh. So both engines together give a total of 408hp, that the Karama can hit 60mph in 5.8 seconds, and a top speed of 125mph.
However, Q-Drive gives the most benefit in the fuel-consumption. The 2010 Fisker Karma Hybrid Sedan will have an all-electric range of 50 miles (80km). After the all electric 50 miles, the gasoline engine turns a generator to charge the lithium ion battery. Once the 50-mile electric range has been exceeded, the Karma can be used as a normal hybrid vehicle. With this balance of electric and gas range, Fisker Automotive estimates that most Karma drivers who charge the Karma overnight and commute less than 50 miles per day will be able to achieve an average fuel economy of 100 mpg per year.
Coming into the looks, the Karma Hybrid Sedan has to be one of the best-looking plug-in hybrids ever. With only minor design enhancements made to the concept version back in January 2008, this production 2010 Fisker Karma Hybrid Sedan retains the extreme proportions and beautiful sculpture. What makes it stand out even more, is the so elegant roof-to-quarter end of the car.The 2010 Fisker Karma Hybrid Sedan will start sales in November, at a base price of $87,900. Despite the high prices, Fisker expects to sell 15,000 units of them per year.
As for the Karma S Concept, it sits on the same platform as the sedan. Infact, it's nearly all the same. It's a coupe-roadster version of the Karma Hybrid Sedan. The Karma S Concept has a Mercedes SL like tractable hardtop. There is no information whether the Karma S Concept will ever make it into production, but if Fisker can sell the Karma Hybrid Sedan then it is very likely that we will see the Karma S on the roads in the next few years.

New Reveal At Detroit: 2010 Toyota Prius
The next generation Prius should be a great car. Because it needs to beat the cheaper Honda Insight, and should be as good as the modern Chevrolet Volt. Well at the Detroit Auto Show, Toyota unveiled there best offering Prius yet. The third-generation Prius gets new styling better mileage and enhanced performance.
Toyota want the new Prius to be funky like a Honda Element or a Scion xB, in looks, but still looks like a recognizable Prius. So the 2010 Prius gets a revised front-fascia, LED headlights and taillights, and a more edgier shape than before. However, it's not about the shape. Toyota says that the third-generation Prius is now roomier, and offers rear passengers more headroom, while making the Prius more aerodynamic. Its drag coefficient has been reduced to .25 from .26.
Inside, it's much more enhanced. The 2010 Prius gets rid of the cheap plastics inside, and replaces them with a plastics with a quality look, and as Toyota say, a softer touch. The center-console has been raised along with the futuristic gear-lever, and there's an integrated pass-through to access the 12-volt outlet. The 2010 Toyota Prius also comes with an optional sliding glass moonroof with solar panels located over the rear seating area. The solar powered system is used to power the air circulation fan - not requiring help from the engine. The features prevents the interior temperature from rising when the vehicle is parked - reducing the load when use air-conditioning.
Power comes from a 1.8L 4-cylinder unit that makes a total of 98hp - total horsepower with Toyota hybrid system has been increased to 134hp. 0-60mph time has improved to 9.8 seconds, down from 10.5. Drivers also have the option of choosing between three drive modes: EV, Eco, and Power. In EV mode, the Prius achieves 50mpg, which is improved by 25% from the first generation.
Over 160,000 new Toyota Prius cars were sold in the U.S. last year. Toyota plans to increase that number by 20,000 with the new model. No word on prices yet, but if Toyota wants to sell that big amount of Prius, they need to market this thing well to shake-off the competitors from Honda and Chevrolet. This wait and see if the Prius can, we it hits dealer-ships in the U.S and Japan this spring.Source: [Toyota]
New Reveal At Detroit: 2009 Lincoln C Concept
Lincoln today dropped a brand new concept at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The Lincoln C Concept is a study that offers big luxury in C-sized package for the upscale urban consumer - basically a rival to the Mini Cooper, BMW 1-Series and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A and B-Class. If the C rolls out in production, it'll be the smallest Lincoln yet. So think of the Lincoln C as Lincoln’s version of the Ford Focus.
The new 2009 Lincoln C Concept would be a good market for Lincoln to venture into since none of its rivals have aggressively attacked that demographic. The Lincoln C Concept is designed with contemporary consumer in mind. The muscular lines and the big wheels, that's what we want.
Power for the Lincoln C Concept comes from a 1.6L EcoBoost inline 4-cylinder engine that makes a total of 180hp and 180lb-ft of torque. Mated to a dual-clutch PowerShift 6-speed transmission, the Lincoln C returns a projected 43 mpg on the highway.
Ford is also displaying its latest Eva HMI-technology in the Lincoln C. Production plans have yet to be revealedSource: [Lincoln]
New Reveal At Detroit: 2010 Lincoln MKT
Joining the new MKZ and MKS is the all-new luxury crossover MKT that Lincoln debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, offering a three-row seating. The MKT is actually based on the Ford Flex.
Inside and out, it looks pretty similar to the Flex, but with Lincoln touches. So the interior is full of creamy leather. As for the exterior, it features end-to-end tail-lights. But what makes the MKT stand out is the huge split waterfall grille.
The 2010 Lincoln MKT offers two fuel-efficient engine choices: 268hp 3.7L V6 or the new 3.5L V6 EcoBoost™ V6 engine that delivers 355hp. Both engines are connected to a 6-speed automatic.
Some of the new features available on the 2010 MKT include Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Warning with Brake Support, Active Park Assist, Blind Spot monitoring.
The 2010 Lincoln MKT will be available in dealer showrooms end of the summer. Don't mistake this MKT for being just a luxury version of the Flex. The MKT is a very distinctive crossover. But beyond the crossover's beautiful looks, there is a host of new technology on offer inside and out that should help put the MKT on luxury crossover shopping lists.Source: [Lincoln]

New Reveal At Detroit: 2010 Tesla Roadster S
Tesla Motors has delivered so far about 150 Roadsters to its customers, about 1,100 people are on the waiting list for that all-electric sports car that starts at $109,000 U.S. dollars. Tesla Roadster reaches 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Today Tesla Motors introduced a Sport version of the Roadster at the Detroit Auto Show. It reaches 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and starts at $128,500 in the United States. Deliveries begin in late June.
Roadster Sport comes with a hand-wound stator and increased winding density for lower resistance and higher peak torque. So now, the Roadster S "revs" until 14,000 rpm. In addition to Yokohama’s Ultra High Performance tires, the Roadster Sport has improved suspension with adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars that will be tuned to the driver’s preferences.
This is the Tesla that should have debuted at first. Because with more power, better tires and beefed-up suspension, the Tesla S wins all the competition against its rivals. It's amazing how a new-born car maker is making cars that old and experienced car makers are afraid of.

New Reveal At Detroit: 2009 Kia Soul’ster Concept
Kia these days is trying to add passion through its cars. The Kia Soul, that debuted at the 2008 Paris Auto Show is an example. Now though, Kia is adding the " 'ster " part to its Soul. The 2009 Kia Soul’ster Concept is a high 0ff-roading version of the Soul hatchback. With the Soul’ster concept, Kia has young buyers budgets in mind.
looking at it, is such not a bad thing. It looks very funky and urban. Even the yellow color here is great on it. Somehow, it's very likeable. It remains us very much of the Suzuki Samuri, but better.
Currently there is no information will the Soul’ster ever make it into production. But if it does, then Kia seriously needs to consider adding an AWD to it.Source: [Kia]
New Reveal At Detroit: 2009 Chevrolet Spark Concept
At the Detroit Auto Show, Chevrolet made a hash of the new 2009 Chevrolet Spark Concept. Before, GM decided that the production Spark will not come to the U.S market. However, as consumer demand shifts to more compact and fuel-efficient cars, GM announced that it has changed its mind. According to GM, this small-city cuddle will be capable of delivering 40 mpg in the city. The Chevy Spark will make its world debut in full-production form at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show in March. Sales will begin in Europe starting the first-quarter of 2010. Though, it's probably going to be manufactured at GM-Daweoo's factory in Korea, just like the current generation of the Spark. So don't be fooled by the Chevy badge, it's actually a Korean car (probably).
New Reveal At Detroit: 2009 Chrysler 200C Concept
Along with Dodge's Circuit EV, comes this Chrysler electric concept. It's called the 200C Concept, and it's one of E-REV (Range-extender electric-vehicles) series that may slip into production factories soon.
The troubled-American automaker has pulled another one out of its ENVI bag of tricks. Chrysler says that the new 200C EV concept is influenced by the proportions of the Chrysler 300C to create a modern E-REV that appeals to both luxury and sports car enthusiasts. Infact, it does. All the sleek lines and that beautifully-shaped grille give it a distinctive look.
We can't talk much about the interior, because Chrysler gave this show car a rather too concept like interior, so we know when it hits production, it'll be completely different. As for the concept's interior goes, it's full of leather and chrome bits.
The method that the 200C uses is a Range-extender Electric Vehicle Technology. So This Chrysler 200C EV uses a small gasoline engine and integrated electric generator that produces electricity to extend the driving range to 400 miles. It can also do 40-miles with zero fuel consumption and zero tailpipe emissions.
It's noticeable that the Chrysler LLC Group is interested in making electric cars nowadays. However, will this interest result that they make good cars, that people would want to buy? Well they're in trouble right now, so they should work hard.Source: [Chrysler]
New Reveal At Detroit: 2010 Lexus HS 250h
Today at the Detroit Auto Show Lexus revealed the 2010 HS 250h. It is world’s first dedicated luxury hybrid vehicle and the fourth and most fuel-efficient hybrid under Lexus brand. Being the first in its class it lacks direct competition.
Lexus positions HS 250h between the IS luxury sport sedan and the EX luxury sedan. Equipped with Lexus’ first four-cylinder gas engine, the 2.4L powerplant is part of the latest Lexus Hybrid Drive System, which generates 187 hp.
The HS 250h sedan’s expected fuel efficiency will be more than 30-percent better than the most fuel-efficient model currently in the Lexus lineup. Among the technologies adopted in the 2.4L four-cylinder engine are cooling piston oil jets; an optimized balance shaft rate for improved Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) characteristics; and a hot-air venting system mounted behind the radiator.
In addition to being extremely fuel efficient HS 250h is also full of features to make your journey as comfortable as possible. There is even a camera mounted in the front grille, that monitors hard-to-see areas with just the push of a button from the steering wheel. Safety features include Lexus’ next generation telematics systems, Lexus Enform, Safety Connect, Vehicle Stability Control, Pre-Collision System with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. In standard Hs 250h comes with 10 airbags and active front head rests. Lexus HS 250h will go on sale late summer as a 2010 year model.

New Reveal At Detroit: 2010 Toyota Camry
At the Detroit Auto Show, Toyota showed the 2010 face-lifted Camry. The 2010 Camry now comes with a couple of exterior changes including a new grille and front bumper, an enlarged lower intake, larger projector headlamps and restyled tail lamps. The Camry and LE trim-levels now feature restyled standard wheel covers while the XLE trim-level features new 16-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, while the SE grade adds new 17-inch sporty alloy wheels.
However, Toyota made a major change in the basic engine. The basic Camry is now equipped with an all-new 2.5L 4-cylinder developing 170hp. The high-end Camry will carry a 3.5L V6 with 268hp. Both engines send their power to the front-wheels via either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
Pricing for the 2010 Toyota Camry will be announced closer to its March launch date. Though we don't expect any changes. Source: [Toyota]
New Reveal At Detroit: 2010 Honda Insight
When the Honda Insight was leaked just before the Detroit Auto Show, there was still some information missing. Now though, Honda just made the Insight's world debut in Detroit, so we got all the information we want.
While it's not a far cry from the Insight Concept shown at the Paris Motor Show, there are still a few noticeable changes. The front end design has lost the show car's LED lighting in favor of conventional halogen/hid units. The lower fascia has grown a pair of oddly placed fog lamps. Fortunately the happy grin of the concept remains as it should. The profile view remains similar in design, but loses the tiny mirrors and over-sized wheels of the show car. The biggest difference happens at the rear, where the tough look of the show car has been set aside for a more "productionized" look with proper bumpers and a larger rear glass opening.
Getting inside, the Insight shares lots of bits from the Civic. So the two-tier digital instrument panels are there, along with a new "fuel efficiency" gauge. Standard features on all 2010 Honda Insight Hybrids include 60/40 split and fold-down rear seatbacks; automatic climate control; power windows, mirrors and door locks; a tilting and telescoping steering wheel and a 160-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with MP3 audio playback, an auxiliary audio input jack and Speed-Sensitive Volume Control (SVC). Navigation screen is the only option here.
The 2010 Honda Insight is powered by a 1.3L SOHC i-VTEC engine mated to a CVT transmission. That engine works together with Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid technology that allows for an EPA rated fuel-economy of 40/43 (city/highway) mpg. Infact, according to our trusted sources, the Insight could manage over 60 mpg! Besides that outstanding fuel-economy, the 13hp electric motor IMA hybrid system, along with a 10.6 gallon fuel-tank, allows for driving range of more than 400 miles.
At an expected price tag of 19,000$, this five-passenger, five-door Insight is expected to be the most affordable hybrid car available when it goes on sale in the spring of 2009. That should kick-off the new, ugly and expensive Toyota Prius. Honda expects to sell 200,000 units per year - approximately 100,000 in North America - and will utilize a new interactive, driver-focused fuel economy enhancement technology named the Ecological Drive Assist System (Eco Assist™). New Reveal At Detroit: 2009 Cadillac Converj
Rumors about a new Chevrolet Volt-based Cadillac were true. Because today at the Detroit Auto Show, Cadillac took the wraps off a new concept based on the Chevy Volt's "Voltec" drivetrain. It's called the Converj.
This luxurious and sporty version of the Volt is drop-dead gorgeous. With styling that is instantly recognizable as Cadillac, the press conference showed that the car was designed to be aesthetically pleasing on its own. It's just a great shape that holds great promise. All the sharp edges and wide shoulders give it a distinctive look. GM gave the Converj a title of "Cadillac Of Electric Vehicles".
Inside, the Coverj's interior is purely Cadillac. So unlike the cheap plastics in any hybrid car, 2+2 Converj coupe Winter White synthetic suede and Midnight Black leather, polished aluminum and wood grain accents. The headliner made from silk and suede and a wool-blend carpeting are made from renewable materials. And in the center console, all the buttons operate by touching only.
Just like the Volt, Cadillac Converj’s Voltec system is made up of 16kWh, a T-shaped battery (made up of more than 220 lithium-ion cells), an electric-drive unit and a flex-fuel 4-cylinder engine-generator. That allows the Converj to produce a total of 161-hp with a maximum torque of 273 lb-ft working in 0 rpms. Working like a Extended-range electric-vehicle (E-REV) as the Chevrolet Volt, the Voltec technology allows the Converj to travel up to 40 miles on battery power alone. An onboard gasoline engine will allow it to travel hundreds of additional miles before it needs to be refueled or plugged in to recharge. Top speed is rated at 100 mph. GM says that it takes less than 3 hours to recharge the battery at 240V (about 8 hours from a 120V outlet). The Cadillac Converj also features GM’s Magnetic Ride Control which enhances ride-feel.
It's expect to hit the roads in its production form somewhere after the Volt, probably 2011. However, could this be the best electric car? Well from what appears, this Cadillac will surely make a fuss when it debuts in its production model.Source: [Cadillac]

New Reveal At Detroit: 2009 Volvo S60 Concept
Volvo's big flash for the 2009 Detroit Auto Show is the S60 Concept, which debuts a new design direction for the Scandinavian brand once known for elevating the art of boxes on wheels. And this one, isn't a box at all.
Volvo is showing this S60 Concept for what they can do in the near future. This concept features a coupe-like roofline and elegant front end brandishing the largest version of Volvo's iron mask badge that we've ever seen. A new character line running along the sides of the concept nicely updates the broad shoulder that's common on the brand's current cars and SUVs. There are lots of other cool exterior details, as well.
the interior is the concept's crown jewel. The floating center stack, inspired by current Volvo production interiors, was made by hand out of Orrefors crystal.
Like any Volvo, this S60 Concept is full of safety equipment. Including, a Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and pedestrian detection system. It works to avoid collisions with pedestrians under 20 km/h altogether and minimize injury for ones occurring at faster speeds. This technological-safety showcase will debut on the production S60, too.
Finally, the S60 Concept is powered by a 1.8L four-cylinder turbodiesel with direct injection, the S60 Concept is also frugal with fuel, bringing 50mpg fuel efficincy. However, in the production, we expected a bigger engine for this big car.Source: [Volvo]
