Report : Nissan cancels development on Silvia successor, and 4-door Infiniti GT-R sedan

Nissan's CEO Carlos Ghosn has been doing recent dramatic cutbacks. Earlier this month, Nissan announced that it will globally cut its workforce by 20,000 and expects a 265 billion yen ($2.9 billion) net loss for the fiscal year through March.

So this why, Nissan announced that they have canceled the compact RWD Silvia successor project. Much like Honda's cancellation of the NSX project. CEO Ghosn said that they want to focus on "green" cars that could compete with Toyota's Prius. Plans for a four-door Infiniti sedan based on the Nissan GT-R have also been suspended but not cancelled.

It makes us sad to see Nissan interested in making green and economical cars rather than exciting and exotic cars. But with financial loss that Nissan is suffering from, it is sensible that Nissan will be making cars that people are interested in these days. Tell us what you think in the comments.
