Official : Mercedes to offer SLS AMG with a 526 hp electric-drive option!

The all-new 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing is coming out in a couple of months, and we already got enough information to keep excited. Mercedes also had Motor Trend magazine to release a video of SLS AMG, going around Germany's Nurburgring race-track. Now, Mercedes released new info about SLS AMG, that got us even more excited!

In-spite the SLS AMG is coming to showrooms in 2010, equipped with a 563 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque 6.3L V8, Mercedes announced that in 2015, SLS AMG will be available with a battery-powered electric-drive engine. With Diamler investing $50 million in Tesla Motors, Mercedes announced that the new electric motor will come with the help of Tesla's experience.

Mercedes-Benz says that power will come from four-electric motors with a combined output of 526 hp and 649 lb-ft of torque. Although that's less horsepower than the V8, the electric-drive will have much more torque, allowing the SLS AMG electric to hit 60 mph in 4-seconds. Unlike the V8 though, this is a zero-emission electric supercar!

“With the SLS AMG with electric drive, we wanted to redefine the super sports car. For us, it is not just about responsibility. We attach just as much importance to excitement and classic AMG performance,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-AMG.

With 2015 a while away, Mercedes-Benz has a lot of time to stay true to its claims.
