Dyno Testing: 2009 Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series [w/video]

When Mercedes-Benz were deciding which engine to put in their SL65 AMG Black Series edition, they went for a massive 6.0L twin-turbo V12, that deliveries 670hp and 738 lb-ft. That is more power than the Mercedes-Mclaren SLR. So this power is enough to move the 2 ton SL65 to 60mph in 3.8 seconds.

So the question comes, how many of these stallions and torque goes to the rear wheels? Well, Automobile Magazine found out by taking it to the dyno shop. Here are the results. The SL65 AMG Balck Series delivered 573hp @ 5300rpm and 682lb-ft @ 3620rpm to the rear wheels. According to the dyno formula, that's the usual 15% power loss. So it didn't disappoint anyone.

Watch the video to take a closer look on how the SL65 AMG Black Series faired on the dyno. And turn on the volume to highest level to enjoy the sound of that engine. There's also the Corvette ZR-1's dyno testing to check out, that we featured a while back.
