RumorMill : GM's 4.5L Duramax V8 diesel engine to be fitted in Caddilac's CTS !

Motor Trend magazine claims that GM is considering to roll out its 4.5L Duramax turbodeisel V8 engine into Caddilac's CTS . It would be a middle-step between the standard V6 CTS and the smoky CTS-V .

Fitting the enormous block should be an easy job , but they would need the CTS-V's bulging hood . Because this dual-overhead cam , 4 valve , turbocharged deisel V8 is a monster . May only develop 310 hp , but it gives out a tire-shredding 520 lb-ft of torque ! Although GM isn't very fund at the moment , they say they already have a transmission to handle that mountain of torque . Better still , this will be sold in all 50 - states in America . So it's what Caddilac best offering to compete with the Germans . So companies like Audi , BMW and Mercedes should be worried about their diesel cars , because if Motor Trend where true , Caddilac would seem to crush them all . Yet again , if the story is true , this would help GM's CAFE certification to meet the stricter 35 mpg requirements in 2020.
