RumorMill : Nissan 370Z Hybrid for 2011?

Reports that Infiniti will come up with a hybrid model between 2010 and 2011, which will probably be a real production version of the Essence Concept. On the other end of scale though, there's Nissan. Unlike Toyota and Honda, Nissan doesn't have much with the hybrid technology. They once made an Altima Hybrid, but that never really worked. Nevertheless, they want to try again, but this time in a sports car.

That's right. Nissan has plans for 2011, to make a hybrid version of the 2-door 370Z Coupe. (fan website) says that we should expect the fuel-saving 370Z to be equipped with a lithium-ion battery from corporate partner NEC that feeds power to a lone electric motor sandwhiched between the Z's 332 hp 3.7-liter VQ V6 engine and transmission. The dual-headed powertrain is reportedly expected to achieve 35 miles per gallon on the mixed cycle, and still launch to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds.
