Rover is back! Sort of. Well, a Chinese company called Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) Motors bought the rights for the Rover and MG brands to bring the British company back into the automotive market. It was a big surprise at Shanghai's Auto Show, that SAIC revealed a four-door sedan with a liftback with the MG logo upfront.
The midsize four-door liftback MG6 is based on the platform and the mechanics of sister company Roewe's 550 sedan which in turn uses the underpinnings of the Rover 75 that was developed back in the late 1990's when the MG Rover Group belonged to BMW. The MG6 is powered by an upgraded version of Rover's K-series 1.8L turbocharged four-cylinder engine.The 2010 MG Rover MG6 will be on-sale in China mainly. Though SAIC has big plans to sell the MG6 in the British U.K market as well. If all goes right, the MG6 will be all around Europe. Funny how an Indian automaker, Tata took-over Land Rover and Jaguar, and now Chinese SAIC have resurrected the iconic British MG Rover as well.

The rights to the name 'Rover' are actually owned by Tata, having acquired the marque as part of the deal to buy Land Rover and Jaguar from Ford.
The car isn't too bad, a little derivative but more appealing than the Honda based 400, later 45 which was the last, all new saloon produced in the name of Morris Garages.
