The definition to a "SPY SHOT" is simple. It's pictures of camouflaged future cars that automakers don't want us to see. And they're illegal, too. So they're definitely exciting. But would anyone explain this? It's spy shots of the Mazda3 5-door hatchback that we didn't see at the LA Auto Show with its 4-door sedan brother. However, these pictures where posted by Mazda themselves! So I think it's a new way of teaser pictures.
Anyways, what do these "official spy shots" show us? Well, up-front, it seems it shares the head-lights and open-mouth smiling grill from the Mazda3 sedan. However at the back, the 5-door Mazda3 is heavily camouflaged, so we only can see a swooping back-end. Interior is pretty much the same as the sedan version.
When it finally is debuted at the 2008 Bologna Motorshow in Italy next month, the hatch's engine options should basically the same as those of the sedan's, which means it will initially get both a 148hp 2.0L and a larger 167hp 2.5L version of the MZR 4-cylinder engine.
