Specs on Toyota/Subaru's RWD Compact FR “086A”

Rumors about this car has been around for over a year, and it's starting to get outdated. Yes, we are talking about the much anticipated rear-wheel-drive sports coupe from Toyota and Subaru, that will bring back the days of the '86 Corolla. Toyota and Subaru aim to produce and sell this Compact FR 086A in Japan in 2011 at around 2,000,000 Yen, which will come worldwide at around $23,000.

The Compact FR 086A should have lots of inspirations of out of the small Japanese compact sports cars from the '80s, in design and driving characteristics. That's why the Compact FR 086A will only have a 2.0L 4-cylinder, packing 200 hp through the rear-wheels, via a 6-speed manual. However, weighing at just 1,200 kgs, it's very light by today's standards, and supposedly should handle great. Even so, insiders say that when Toyota/Subaru Compact FR 086A will get a STi version at Subaru, and a TRD version at Toyota.

To keep this car at a low price, Toyota and Subaru are betting on this car's success. It's going to be tough on Toyota and Subaru, since the main competitor of the Compact FR 086A is the all-new 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. We hope to have official details from Toyota and Subaru soon.
